Our First Market - March 28, 2020

Welcome, everyone! We're so excited to have you spend some of your afternoon with us and we can't wait to show you more about what Forever Bee does and how we work behind the scenes! Meet our team!
Our owners and founders, Matt and Annanie. Most of you will recognize one or both of us for being the face of the honey you love for the past 8 years! Whether it’s beekeeping, meeting you all at various markets, keeping up with production, or delivering to your doorstep, we’ve been there with you.

Our business manager, Kira. She’s been keeping us on track toward our goals for the last couple of years and we wouldn’t be where we are without her! Momma of one and soon-to-be momma of two, she keeps extra busy taking your orders, answering your questions, and representing us at markets while also managing things “behind the scenes.”

Heather is our sales representative for the Calgary area! You may have seen her beautiful face at markets over the last bit and will again in the future! While we’re on in-person market hiatus, she’s making sure those of you in Calgary are getting your weekly deliveries and has just started helping out in the warehouse!

Joelynn is a momma of three in Lethbridge and has the incredibly important job of sales representative for Southern Alberta. She is excited to see you all again when the Lethbridge Farmers’ Market fires back up. She is passionate about helping and serving others which is why she is such an amazing fit for our team. 

Lanice is the newest addition to our forever bee family! They are fun, charismatic and hardworking. Lanice is a self proclaimed “Dad joke” expert and a musician. Their responsibilities as production worker include keeping the warehouse in ship-shape and making products for you!

Cassandra has been a casual helper for us where needed over the past few years. We recently decided to bring her on as a permanent customer service representative to help with some of Kira’s tasks while she’s on maternity leave as well as being our current Southern Alberta delivery driver and self-proclaimed recipe tester!

Beekeeping
All of our honey is made in Alberta and we do our own beekeeping. We have hives placed between Red Deer and Lethbridge.

When choosing a new hive placement, we have specific criteria the location must meet such as the presence of natural wildflowers (sweet red clover, apple blossoms, lilacs, dandelions, etc.), a natural water source, and wide open space.

We have two harvest seasons, summer and fall. In the summer, we harvest the honey that the bees made from the wildflowers mentioned above and in the fall, we harvest pure clover honey.

In the winter, we wrap our hives with an insulated blanket. Surprisingly, bees do not hibernate in the winter! They are very active and keep their hives at about 30 degrees C. We make sure that they have two access points, one on the bottom of the hive and one at the top for them to use if the bottom becomes covered by snow.

Creamed Clover Honey
Our creamed clover honey is raw and unpasteurized. We harvest it directly from our hives as a liquid and then put it through a freezing process to cream it (this is your hint to get those bonus rewards points on our website ;)). We choose to freeze the honey because we believe that it is the best way to keep the honey as pure as possible without adding anything to it (starter crystals) or destroying it through any heat created by friction caused by whipping it. Creamed honey will maintain its texture and never crystallize though you can return it to its liquid state if preferred by placing it in a warm water bath.

Flavoured Honey
All of our flavoured honeys are made using raw clover honey and one additional organic ingredient (Lavender from France, Turmeric from India, Cacao from Ecuador, etc.). We currently have seven permanent flavoured honeys (cinnamon, chocolate, ginger, lavender, maple, licorice, and turmeric). Which flavour do you already know and love? Ginger Honey
How cool is Milton?! He makes our job so much easier in the workshop and helps us to keep more of your favourite flavoured honeys in stock at all times!

Our ginger honey is made by mixing our pure, raw honey with pure, organic ginger sourced from Sri Lanka. It is the perfect balance of sweet and spicy and is a great addition to your recipes or a cup of tea! We love that our ginger honey (as well as our other flavoured honeys) easily combines the health benefits of high quality honey with the health benefits of high quality ginger!

Bee Pollen
Bee pollen is an incredible natural food and only a teaspoon a day is necessary to reap its many benefits (and that teaspoon contains over 2.5 billion grains of flower pollen that took a busy little bee 8 hours to collect!). We collect it 3 weeks out of the year from our strongest hives. 

Bee pollen is approximately 40% protein and contains nearly every nutrient needed by the human body and cannot be replicated by a laboratory (though they have tried!).
